Want To Join Me On A Quest?

I’ve been re-reading one of my favorite books, The Art of Non-Conformity by Chris Guillebeau. I’ve always been a fan of Chris’ books and he’s such a fan of my latest release When I Grow Up, I Want To Be… that he wrote the endorsement that's across the top of the front cover!

In The Art of Non-Conformity, Chris reminded me about Kiva loans. Their website says, “By lending as little as $25 on Kiva, anyone can help a borrower start or grow a business, go to school, access clean energy or realize their potential.” This micro-financing model helps people around the world, including those who live in poor countries where such help would be impossible or cost-prohibitive, but where just a small loan can get them started on a business that can lift them out of abject poverty.

I’m particularly interested in helping women. Putting money in the hands of women has the most positive long-term effect on the whole family, especially the children--nutritionally, educationally and more. Check out this short video. It's under a minute in length.

Perhaps you already know that I’ve been to Bangkok four times for short term mission trips. My primary focus was to share a career workshop I designed specifically for ex-prostitutes. Dozens of women took part in my classes and some of the questions I used with them were the seeds from which the When I Grow Up book sprouted.

For that reason, I’ve decided that for every 50 copies of When I Grow Up, I Want To Be… that are sold in August, I’ll set up a Kiva loan for a group of women for $100. And I’ll report back to you in my September newsletter on who the recipients are of the loan(s), where they are, and what they're doing with the money.

Throughout August, I’m guest posting about When I Grow Up on a few award-winning career blogs. Plus several other blogs are lined up who will be reviewing the book, and I’ll be the guest on at least one podcast. I expect these things to drive sales. But I need your help too.

If you’ve already bought the book, can you share about it on whatever social media you use and tell people about my “Kiva Quest”? And if you haven’t bought the book, are there kids in your life who would benefit from it? Or do you have friends with kids who would like to hear about it? They can learn more about it and see a generous sample at my website.

I’ll also be posting about this on FacebookLinkedIn, and Twitter, so you can check there to share, like, or retweet.

If you can help spread the word, I’ll appreciate any help you can give. Together we can change the world, $100 at a time.
